Improving Lead Generating and Conversation Rates: Think Like a Farmer

By Charlie Cook John's a freelance photographer in Ohio who called to tell me of his frustration with the advertising and promotional campaigns he has tried in the last couple of years. Each time he does a promotional mailing to his list of 10,000, he is lucky if he gets one or two inquiries. I had a similar call from a corporation that was spending its time and money driving traffic to its web site. With six thousand visitors a day, they were only getting a couple of inquiries per week. Both businesses were spending a lot of money to get attention but werent converting this attention to leads. Are you having the same problem? Marketing is a lot like farming. You cant just head out to your fields and bring in a bountiful harvest. First, you buy seed from the money youve budgeted. You buy enough to be sure that a good crop will germinate and thrive until harvest, and youre likely to plant several different crops to hedge the weather and the market. You may not be interested in becoming a farmer, but if you want to see your business grow there are three ways thinking like a farmer can help you. 1. Learn How to Collect More Leads
A farmer needs seed and lots of it to bring in a bountiful harvest. You need a lot of quality leads to increase your clientele. If your ads or mailings aren't resulting in a steady stream of inquiries, find out what's not working and change it. By changing a couple of sentences of your marketing copy or your offer, for example, you can increase response rates by a factor of ten or more. Could you collect more leads with the right marketing strategy and marketing copy? 2. Learn How to Increase Your Lead Conversion Rate
A farmer who had spent his savings on seed wouldn't plant his field, then go on vacation and come back months later expecting to find a healthy crop. While you may be the exception, this is the way most people market their businesses. According to The Yankee Group, between 40% to 80% of new business leads aren't converted simply due to lack of follow-up. Many businesses spend money on getting attention and then don't follow up on a prospect's interest by giving them the information or contact opportunity they want. What you tell a prospect and how promptly you respond when they show an interest determines whether they continue to stay in touch. Of the people who see your ads, what percentage respond? Of the people who visit your web site, what percentage contact you? Of the people who contact you, what percentage become clients and customers? Could you increase your lead conversion rates by improving your Internet, phone and mail follow-up? 3. Learn to Use Systems that Generate Leads, Nurture Them and Increase Conversion Rates
Today's farmers are as technologically and information savvy as any of us. Farmers use GPS in their tractors to plant their crops, the web to connect to weather forecasting and crop price information web sites to track their markets. Using high tech information and machines to get the work done, today's farmer has a system for buying seed and supplies, planting, maintaining and harvesting his or her crops. They make good use of systems and machines to increase their chances of bringing in a bountiful harvest. In the case of the corporation mentioned above, a simple change to their web site increased their lead conversion from 1 or 2 a week to 80 a week. Could your lead conversion rates increase with a better system for capturing and following up on leads? If you're like me, you get hungry often. Whether you're taking photographs or growing lettuce, you want to generate more leads and grow your business. To fill your larder and bring in a steadily increasing number of clients, think like a farmer. Use your marketing strategy and lead generation system to bring in many more prospects and increase your conversion rates. When you do you'll find yourself with a bountiful crop of new clients.

Use Trade Show Magicians to Fill Your Booth with Prospects

By Mitch Tarr Trade show magicians are one of the many ways to build booth traffic and separate your company from others on the floor. At a trade show you not only have to compete against your competition's sales reps but also you have to compete against all the 'attention-grabbing' strategies they use. Louder doesn't always mean more traffic. One thing that really draws a crowd IS a crowd. If you want to build a small crowd that grows larger, consider how magic works on people. It is irresistible! Even better, a good trade show magician understands his (or her) role on the floor and works for you to build an interested, feel-good crowd. If you are planning to use trade show magic to draw a crowd . . . and it will, then you need to go one step further. Just doing magic for the audience that will build in your booth is not enough. You have to have a plan! There are really two things you have to do to make this not just a good strategy but a great one. First. You have to find a way to engage people during or after the magic to find who they are. Look at your booth layout, train your staff and create some sign up tools. But in some way you have to take advantage of the fact a large crowd has stopped at your booth. Second. You must ensure your key marketing message is incorporated into the act. Trade show magic is not really about entertaining people, although good magic does just that. People in good moods are easier to approach and build rapport with. But this is a chance to add that EXTRA piece of having a larger group hear your key marketing message. This will work great if your trade show audience is as laser-focused as your target market. For example, if your target is dentists, and you are at a dental convention you don't need to spend much time qualifying to discover if you have a dentist in front of you or not. They will be. But if you are at a technology show, you may be talking to anyone from the VP to a programmer so you need to find out who they are. So take this chance to get your message to your audience. A special offer at the end would do the trick. Spend the time BEFORE the show during your planning sessions (you do do planning don't you?) to use trade show magic to go to the next level. What is Righteousness? - Part 2

By Saundra L. Washington As was pointed out in part 1, righteous is not simple goodness. We know this because the Pharisee was a good man and followed religious rules and rituals more than most of us would or should. But, his goodness was unacceptable to God. There will be a lot of so called good people in hell. Goodness is not a ticket to the Kingdom of God. Righteousness is also not being different for difference sake. Though Christians are called upon to be different from unbelievers, God is concerned with what manner we are different and what constitutes the difference. Righteousness is not ritual. There are many who confuse following rules and rituals with righteousness. Ritual, be it ever so wonderful and beautiful, is not righteousness. In the church for example, it is possible to have ritual without worship or what St. Paul called the form of godliness. The form is as far as a lot of people go. There is absolutely nothing real about them. They look like saints but act like Satan. Righteousness is definitely not ritual. It is not a body of rules to be rehearsed like an actor would rehearse a scene. We can never measure up by following rules and rituals. The Pharisee believed in sticking to the rules. Listen to him as he proudly says, I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.' Luke 9:12. Now I believe in fasting when there is real spiritual reason for it. But this business of not eating simply to impress someone with it is ridiculous. I am amazed how during the Lenten season the things people decide to give up. They give up everything but themselves; everything except what the Lord requires. But, lets not go there. We also learn from the Pharisee that he was not cheapskate. He believed in giving God his monetary due. Most people rob God. They receive from God but only give Him back what may rightfully be called residuals. But again, ritual is not righteousness. What then is righteousness? True righteousness springs from the heart. It is God centered, not self centered. It is recognizing our deficiency in the presence of Gods sufficiency. Righteousness is something that perfects in our lives. It is Christ inside of us carrying out the will of God. The one who in faith gives oneself to the doing of God's will is righteous, doing righteousness, and considered righteous by God. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God's friend. James 2:23. Righteousness is that which God requires of man and which He gives as a gift to people of faith. In this line of thought, faith is the condition for the reception of the gift of righteousness from God. God acts in Christ, and, in turn, humans react by having faith. Then God gives them righteousness or count them, on the basis of their faith, as if they were righteous. Before You Start A Diet Make Sure You Check Out This Atkins Diet Information

By Cazza Bourke Though the Atkins diet craze has died down somewhat, there are still many people who want to try it. Though I am not big on fad diets, this is one that I used with some success. I had to quit using it though, because the Atkins diet information I was finding was a bit scary to me. Though many of the foods on the diet are ones that people love to eat, it really isnt that great for your heart. That doesnt mean you cant use it, but you should really talk to a doctor before you do. You should find all of the Atkins diet information you can find before you begin. You dont want to start the diet on what you think you know. If you have a heart condition, you really have to watch what you eat, and some of the foods on this diet are not good for the heart. I would not suggest that anyone use this diet if they have heart disease in their family, and some of the Atkins diet information that you find will tell you just that. Your doctor can tell you more about it, and why this diet might not be for you. You can find Atkins diet information in many places, but if you read the books you will find what you need. You should know that there are many who think this diet is all about eating fatty steaks, bacon and eggs, but your common sense should tell you that this is not good for you. I know the diet worked for me before I quit using it, so there is something to the claims that it works, but it also is very iffy on the nutritional side. When looking for Atkins diet information, make sure you are getting real health information, and not just one persons view of it. This diet goes in stages, and once you get past the first stage, you are going to be eating a great variety of food, but in the beginning you are going to be pretty limited. What many leave out when talking about Atkins diet information is that you really do have to watch your portions. Many think that they can just eat the right foods, but they dont have to watch the portion size, and they can eat whenever. You can never lose anything if you are taking in too many calories. This holds true for any and all diets. Cazza Bourke works for a prominent health club company. She also works as a private fitness instructor in San Diego, California. Marketing In The 21st Century

By Tony Thomas Viral Marketing has exploded within the last couple of years. Placing your business and products in front of hungry eyes has morphed from static advertising to audio, video and other forms of viral content. Through the birth of Internet-ready cell phones, text messaging, blogging, wireless laptops, websites that allow video content to be uploaded, 24/7 and services such as iTunes, the ways of promoting yourself are as vast and widespread as your creativity allows. Thinking "outside the box" has never been more important than it is now. There is cash to be made and the need to go where your customers are hanging their hats is vital to the survival and growth of your business. Don't look at it as extra work, but a new challenge and an exciting time to live and work. BLOGGING Blogging is something that every business owner needs to learn to do. Why? It is an everyday medium that is sweeping the Internet. There are blogs for every interest and on any subject you can think of. From breeding dogs to the correct usage of a lawn trimmer, people are out there on their blogs, informing and interacting with others who are interested in what they have to say. Taking it a step further, when you create a blog of interest and begin to generate traffic to it (and you will!), your visitors will want to share their thoughts about what you are talking about. People love to give their opinions and it's your job to open up that dialog. In essence, these people who respond are creating new content for you. The search engines are spidering your blog every time a new entry or comment is made. They love blogs and you will probably soon find that they are ranking your blog or blogs far better and quicker than your actual website! How cool is that? As you get into blogging, you will also be exposed to what is known as RSS Feeds. Quickly, this is a way of providing opt-in content to people through RSS readers and email. I won't go into detail, but will suggest you learn more about it. Just one more way of promoting yourself and spreading the word that you have what people are searching for. Good places to get a free blog is Blogger.com or Wordpress.com. Start today and see that what I'm saying will indeed profit you. I can almost guarantee it. VIDEO AND AUDIO Unless you've been under a rock for the past year or so, you will have noticed the explosion of, what is called, "viral videos." These videos created by anyone who has access to a video camera are sweeping the `Net and growing as viewers post them to newsgroups, link to them from their own blogs or websites and share them with others, via instant messenger or email. With a single video submission to popular websites such as YouTube and Google Video, businesses are placing themselves before the eyes of millions of potential customers. They are making themselves known by promoting their website or product or even advertising for other companies. For example, say that you are a mechanic who would like to share your expertise with others by showing them how to check and change out their vehicle's brakes. You create a video in which you take them through the steps, showing them all they need to know. You market that video by either tagging it with your own mechanic shop location or website or by contact, say, Les Schwab and seeing it they would like to sponsor it. You tag it with their information at the end, collect some money from them, and put it on YouTube for all to see. You both get the exposure. That is only one example of the things you can do with video. The possibilities are as vast as your creativity. You can do the same with audio. Create a MP3 podcast of your travels, ways to do something, interviews, whatever. Market them in the same ways and watch the traffic roll in. FORUMS AND DISCUSSION GROUPS Forums and discussion groups exist for any and all subjects under the sun. If you have an interest, you are sure to find a good handful of discussion groups made up of people who share that same passion. Register for those groups and make some friends and, more importantly, contacts. Share your knowledge and experiences, solve people's problems, and promote yourself through your posts. Not blantantly, but by way of the signature your create. Each of your posts will have your signature tagged onto the end of it. Here's your chance to link to your website or promote your product. Don't sell, but PRE-sell. Once the other group members find that you seem to be an expert on what you speak about, they will trust what you say and be more apt to click on the links in your signature. Find the groups, register for them and start making contacts. A couple of the more popular places to find discussion groups are at Google and Yahoo. There are many more out there and they are looking for another voice of expertise. Do both them and you the favor of joining them. Blogging, viral video and audio and discussion groups are just a small number of ways to market yourself and your business in the 21st century. Keep an eye on the technology as it crops up and evolves. Don't ever let a new type of opportunity pass you by. Doing things the old ways will leave you in the dust as your competitors move ahead of you. Find out where your potential customers are hanging out and be there to be the Pied Piper for your area of expertise. Give the people what they want, solve their problems, answer their questions and, they in turn, will be more than happy to give you want you want...KA-CHING! Coin Collecting - What Types Are There

By Michael Russell Coin collecting as a hobby is enjoyed by thousands of people today and the numbers are growing. This wasn't the case just prior to 1999. Coin collecting as a hobby had been on the decline since the mid-1960s when the composition of US coins changed from having silver content to being composed entirely of base metal. It became increasing harder to find old coins in pocket change so interest waned over time. The 50 State Quarters Program began in 1999 with the issuing of the first of the State Quarters, honoring the state of Delaware. The 50 State Quarters Program is credited with placing the spotlight back on coin collecting and single-handedly starting a grassroots comeback for the now popular hobby. The reasons for collecting coins are as varied and diverse as the collectors themselves. For example, some collect coin sets that coincide with the birth year of their children or grandchildren, with the intent of giving the collection to the child at a much later date. Then there are those who collect coins with the idea of cashing in once the set has increased significantly in value. They would like to mirror the success of the late Louis E. Eliasberg Sr., who managed to complete his date-and-mint collection of US coins. After his death, his estate sold his collection for an over all total of $44 million. Perhaps the most common place to start is with date-and-mint collecting. For example, you would collect a Lincoln cent from every year it has been minted and you would collect a coin from every mint that produced it that year. This type of collecting is very popular and because of the availability of coin albums, it is quite easy to get started. Another popular type of collecting is by coin type. Instead of collecting every year and mintmark you would collect one coin from a series from one mint. For example, you would collect one coin from every series produced by a certain mint for the years 1900 - 1910. Your collection would consist of one Lincoln cent, one Buffalo nickel, one Washington quarter and so on. This type of collecting can be less expensive than date-and-mint collecting. Most collectors use the savings advantage to purchase higher-grade coins than they could have afforded collecting date-and-mint sets. A very popular type of coin to collect is the mint error coin. Instead of looking for the rare coin in un-circulated condition this collector looks for coins that have been minted with a blemish or error. Some of the more popular errors are double die, date-over-date, mules and coins struck using the wrong metal. The wrong metal coin refers to the 1943 "copper penny" that wasnt supposed to exist. In 1943, because of the war, pennies were made from zinc-coated steel to save copper. Somehow a few coins were accidentally produced using the old bronze coin blanks and they found there way into circulation. It wasn't until years later that the coin-collecting world became aware of their existence. Many a coin-collecting hobbyist still hopes to find one of these valuable minting errors unknowingly hidden away somewhere. Michael Russell

Weight Loss Motivation

By Mason Grae Weight loss motivationhow many times have you been highly motivated to lose weight? Like many, many people, probably a good number of times. Why then, do our weight loss efforts seem to always end with the same results? We seem to end up tired and hungry with minimal weight loss, even with exercise. Then, we end up poorly motivated, or worse yet, we're left with no weight loss motivation left at all. The answer is two words - positive feedback. With it you can be unstoppable in your weight loss efforts. Without positive feedback it probably is only a matter of time before you are sapped of any motivation that you had started out with. And positive feedback means that you're getting results, good results. You're losing weight, feeling good and sticking to your plan. So, why do we fail? One word, hereDIET! Dieting for many people means deprivation, hunger and fatigue. Keeping motivated for your exercise routines while fighting those three things after a day of work makes exercising a little tougher. This is where weight loss motivation begins to fail. Soon you lose interest (motivation!) in exercising. You see the weight loss slowing, or even stopping, even though you are still "dieting" and still depriving your body of food. And then you figure, "Forget itit's not doing anything. I'll get back on this stuff later." And that's it. Another round of weight loss motivation crushed and another weight loss attempt failed. Cheer up! It's very common and you're not alone! So, how do you fix this? Well, you already know your dieting and exercise always seemed to fail after a while. So this time, change your eating habits first. Learn how to put you body into Fat Burning Mode and not Fat Storage Mode. You can do this just by changing what you eat, when you eat and how you combine foods in your meals. It works fast and it works well. It's not dieting, eitherit's just changing what you eat and how you combine the foods that you eat. Once you're in Fat Burning mode you'll start seeing significant changes and the positive feedback loop will be set and you are on your way:
You will start losing weight, just like before. This is the early positive feedback that keeps you going. But at this early stage, it's just like every other weight loss attempt you've tried.
Soon, however, you lose more weight. You've now gone past that five or six pounds, so you start realizing that something is different. This re-enforces your changing eating habits. You now know that you're on to something good.
People start noticing your weight loss. More positive feedback and more weight loss motivation.
You get much more out of exercising now and you are not tired all of the time. You actually have more energy. This is almost all related to your new eating habits.
As time goes by, you are losing more weight. You fit into clothes sizes that you wore years ago. More positive feedback supporting your weight loss motivation. You're now even more motivated to stick to your new eating habits and learn more and more how this affects weight gain and weight loss.
You now start losing fat in areas of your body that you previously gave up on long agomainly that Tummy Fat and lower body fat. You start seeing muscles that you haven't seen for many years. Again, this all re-enforces your motivation to keep exercising and learning about proper nutrition and eating habits.

And still, you are not always hungry, tired and cranky! Positive feedback re-enforcing your weight loss motivation.
It's at this point that you realize things are a lot different this time. You've lost more weight than you ever have. You have lost that tummy fat and you feel great. Best of all, you don't feel like you're dieting and your weight loss motivation is just as high as it was when you first started, if not higher. Positive feedback leads to more, sustained weight loss motivation which leads to more sustained weight loss! It all starts with proper nutrition and eating habitsperiod. So for long term weight loss, you need to change your eating habits first and try to get your body into Fat Burning Mode. Learn as much as you can about proper nutrition and how what you eat affects your blood sugar and insulin levels. Learn about the glycemic index and glycemic loadingall relating to blood sugar and insulin. This will allow you to lose a lot of weight, keep your weight loss motivation intact and in the end, improve your overall health and well-being tremendously. Start learning about proper nutrition and proper eating habits now. Win the war on weight gain, obesity and body fat, especially that stubborn tummy fat. Put your body into Fat Burning Mode! For a great source on how to do this, see: Burn Fat Better! http://www.BurnFatBetter.com/ Mason Grae is a big believer in properly changing eating habits to promote weight loss, improved blood sugar control, lower blood pressure and improved overall health. Education is key, so that the "fad diet" effect, which many times ends in failure, can be avoided. Various Types of Herbal Medicine: Used for Thousands of Years to Successfully Treat Diseases

By Danny Siegenthaler Interest in medicinal herbs is on the rise again and the interest is primarily from the pharmaceutical industry, which is always looking for new drugs and more effective substances to treat diseases, for which there may be no or very few drugs available. Considering the very long traditional use of herbal medicines and the large body of evidence of their effectiveness, why is it that we are not generally encouraged to use traditional herbal medicine, instead of synthetic, incomplete copies of herbs, called drugs, considering the millions of dollars being spent looking for these seemingly elusive substances? Herbs are considered treasures when it comes to ancient cultures and herbalists, and many so-called weeds are worth their weight in gold. Dandelion, Comfrey, Digitalis (Foxglove), the Poppy, Milk Thistle, Stinging nettle, and many others, have well-researched and established medicinal qualities that have few if any rivals in the pharmaceutical industry. Many of them in fact, form the bases of pharmaceutical drugs. Research into the medicinal properties of such herbs as the humble Dandelion is currently being undertaken by scientists at the Royal Botanical Gardens, in Kew, west London, believe it could be the source of a life-saving drug for cancer patients. Early tests suggest that it could hold the key to warding off cancer, which kills tens of thousands of people every year. Their work on the cancer-beating properties of the dandelion, which also has a history of being used to treat warts, is part of a much larger project to examine the natural medicinal properties of scores of British plants and flowers. Professor Monique Simmonds, head of the Sustainable Uses of Plants Group at Kew, said: "We aren't randomly screening plants for their potential medicinal properties, we are looking at plants which we know have a long history of being used to treat certain medical problems. We will be examining them to find out what active compounds they contain which can treat the illness. Unfortunately, as is so often the case, this group of scientists appears to be looking for active ingredients, which can later be synthesized and then made into pharmaceutical drugs. This is not the way herbs are used traditionally and their functions inevitably change when the active ingredients are used in isolation. Thats like saying that the only important part of a car is the engine nothing else needs to be included So, why is there this need for isolating the active ingredients? As a scientist, I can understand the need for the scientific process of establishing the fact that a particular herb works on a particular disease, pathogen or what ever, and the need to know why and how it does so. But, and this is a BIG but, as a doctor of Chinese medicine I also understand the process of choosing and prescribing COMBINATIONS of herbs, which have a synergistic effect to treat not just the disease, but any underlying condition as well as the person with the disease That is a big difference and not one that is easily tested using standard scientific methodologies. Using anecdotal evidence, which after all has a history of thousands of years, seems to escape my esteemed colleagues all together. Rather than trying to isolate the active ingredient(s), why not test these herbs, utilizing the knowledge of professional herbalists, on patients in vivo, using the myriad of technology available to researchers and medical diagnosticians to see how and why these herbs work in living, breathing patients, rather than in a test tube or on laboratory rats and mice (which, by the way, are not humans and have a different, although some what similar, physiology to us). I suspect, that among the reasons for not following the above procedure is that the pharmaceutical companies are not really interested in the effects of the medicinal plants as a whole, but rather in whether they can isolate a therapeutic substance which can then be manufactured cheaply and marketed as a new drug - and of course thats where the money is The problem with this approach is however, that medicinal plants like Comfrey, Dandelion and other herbs usually contain hundreds if not thousands of chemical compounds that interact, yet many of which are not yet understood and cannot be manufactured. This is why the manufactured drugs, based on so-called active ingredients, often do not work or produce side effects. Aspirin is a classic case in point. Salicylic acid is the active ingredient in Aspirin tablets, and was first isolated from the bark of the White Willow tree. It is a relatively simple compound to make synthetically, however, Aspirin is known for its ability to cause stomach irritation and in some cases ulceration of the stomach wall. The herbal extract from the bark of the White Willow tree generally does not cause stomach irritation due to other, so called non-active ingredients contained in the bark, which function to protect the lining of the stomach thereby preventing ulceration of the stomach wall. Ask yourself, which would I choose Side effects, or no site effects? Its a very simple answer. Isnt it? So why then are herbal medicines not used more commonly and why do we have pharmaceutical impostors stuffed down our throats? The answer is, that theres little or no money in herbs for the pharmaceutical companies. They, the herbs, have already been invented, they grow easily, they multiply readily and for the most part, theyre freely available. Further more, correctly prescribed and formulated herbal compounds generally resolve the health problem of the patient over a period of time, leaving no requirement to keep taking the preparation that means no repeat sales no ongoing prescriptions no ongoing problem. Pharmaceuticals on the other hand primarily aim to relieve symptoms that means: ongoing consultations, ongoing sales, ongoing health problems which do you think is a more profitable proposition? Dont get me wrong, this is not to say that all drugs are impostors or that none of the pharmaceutical drugs cure diseases or maladies they do and some are life-preserving preparations and are without doubt invaluable. However, herbal extracts can be similarly effective, but are not promoted and are highly under-utilized. The daily news is full of discoveries of herbs found to be a possible cure of this or that, as in the example of Dandelion and its possible anti-cancer properties. The point is, that these herbs need to be investigated in the correct way. They are not just an active ingredient. They mostly have hundreds of ingredients and taking one or two in isolation is not what makes medicinal plants work. In addition, rarely are herbal extracts prescribed by herbalists as singles (a preparation which utilizes only one herb). Usually herbalists mix a variety of medicinal plants to make a mixture, which addresses more than just the major symptoms. In Chinese medicine for example there is a strict order of hierarchy in any herbal prescription, which requires considerable depth of knowledge and experience on the physicians part. The fact that the primary or principle herb has active ingredients, which has a specific physiological effect, does not mean the other herbs are not necessary in the preparation. This is a fact seemingly ignored by the pharmaceutical industry in its need to manufacture new drugs that can control disease. Knowing that medicinal plants are so effective, that these plants potentially hold the key to many diseases, are inexpensive and have proven their worth time and time again over millennia, why is it that herbal medicine is still not in the forefront of medical treatments, and is considered by many orthodox medical professionals and pharmaceutical companies as hocus-pocus. hmmm.
